Early US phones were almost indistinguishable from phones used in the UK and Europe. Early wooden wallphones, Candlestick phones and the “French style” Strowgerphones or Monophones were all very similar to UK models.

By the 1930s, however, designs proliferated and many were quite distinct from their British counterparts.
